So since he got his head cut off, the old him is dead right? But he seemed normal (his evil self) again at the end when the helicopter blew up. And his partner didn't even acknowledge that he might be a different person now. Any thoughts on clarification?

Yes, that bothered me. Im confused. Maybe his head was close enough to reattach

Yeah they weren't very clear on that. The ending was a let down.
