OT: CBS News Sunday Morning. Treasure

Tomorrow am they are doing a story on buried treasure. Fans of TCOOI might see a glimpse of anything newsworthy going on there. No it might not relate to sunken treasure but it might shed more light on the process of what it takes and costs to retrieve artifacts real or imagined. If it doesn't pan out I apologize.

Where is here? EST it was on between 9-10:30 am. I have recorded it and will post what happened on this board in a few hours. It is on just the regular CBS channel.

Ok I watched. It was about using metal detectors. Oddly enough in this hobby of theirs they have recovered over $40,000.00 dollars worth of gold. That's more than either BDW (so far...lol) or TCOOI. Mostly they come up with junk including nails, a shovel head, a Union belt buckle, nuggets of gold including one piece that weighed in at 4 ounces. They begin their search in libraries looking for old home sites and prospector camps and then they go out in the field. They were mostly searching around the Sierra Nevadas near Sacramento, CA which used to be gold rush country. Well, hats off to them. By the looks of it they have been pretty successful and haven't needed millions of dollars worth of investments, heavy duty equipment (metal detectors run a range generally between $25-$10,000) and say their joy is just getting out in the scenery and listening to the shrill of the detector telling them to dig in that spot. A great amateur way to go treasure hunting and (lol) bring in more than the fancy shows on tv.

Yes, it appears that you were successful in finding it. I still get a wee laugh that they've recovered more than TCOOI !! With what? A tiny bit of the cost that the Laguna brothers put into their search! Gosh Dave would have had so much Crown time with them and be an alcoholic by now...lol!! I too liked the end with their showcase and coin books. You mentioned that you have a metal detector...you might have been given the impetus to get out there this summer.
Sorry to hear that your ground is still frozen. It's been a tough year for those of you up north. I rarely get freezing and am more impacted weather wise by hurricanes. Folks use metal detectors out on the beaches to comb for lost jewelry. If you pick yours back up for use I would follow what those guys in California did. Go to check old maps and info that might lead you to some mini treasures of your own. Good luck with that...let me know if you're successful!
What are you going to be watching next? Perhaps I'll meet you again out on another board. I enjoy a board where we can post and rib each other, or offer different opinions without getting trolled or being stomped on by someone with a differing view. TCOOI was often humorous and I hope they show the season that they already have in the can (completed filming). Be well and be kind.
P.S. Patchy seems like a dog with a bone. He growls and threatens if it appears that anyone or anything is threatening his views or his hunt to secure more investments. Scary part is that we know his past and that he is quite capable of acting out on his feelings in a negative way. Was surprised to see him posting on this board...who knows. Perhaps he will get to the treasure that he is seeking and make us the fools!
