That tweet seems to contradict what he has said on IMDb and what members of the cast have said on the show.

Early in the season, the viewer was led to believe this was a salvage expedition – in that salvage operations would be shown. As the series went on it became readily apparent to even a viewer with limited understanding of salvage operations that this expedition did not have the equipment necessary to reach the alleged gold coins.

His tweet implies that this was not a survey expedition but instead a salvage operation and seems to place the blame for not finding anything remotely resembling gold coins on the fact that they didn't have the proper tools to conduct a salvage operation.

Bayerle admitted on IMDb that this was a survey expedition. Crew members admitted as much on the final show of the season. It is evident he did have the PROPER tools for a survey expedition and the BDW was merely a nine-hour sizzle reel for potential investors.

That simple.

From an article written in 2011.

This all sounds exciting for would be investors, until you look at the deal offered by such companies. The costs of research, exploration and recovery are huge - some salvage outfits spend up to £13m ($19M USD in 2016) a year on it - so they will often keep much of the money generated by a discovery. Up to 90% of the first $50m (about £32m) from a haul might go to the salvage company, and after that it might be a 50-50 split.

Another reason to treat these investments with caution..., is that the great news may not be quite as great as it seems.

The exciting discovery of a shipwreck bulging with goodies may be merely the prelude to years of expensive, profit-sapping legal wrangling. This is what happened when OME found a 19th Century wreck in the Atlantic in 2007.

….

And if all this hasn't put you off, the minimum investment is rarely less than £25,000 ($36K USD in 2016), although there are tax benefits. There are alternatives, however, all of which are cheaper, less stressful and likely to produce quicker results.

Instead of buying into what is, in effect, a profit and cost-sharing agreement, you could simply invest in a salvage company's shares, as many of them are publicly quoted. ....

Or perhaps you could also work up a new TV format, based on diving for buried treasure, which is why my bosses at ITV will soon be getting a proposal for a programme, Twenty Billion Pounds Under The Seas.

Or you could simply forget the oceans, buy a £200 ($290 USD in 2016) metal detector and head for the hills - the most enjoyable and most cost-effective option.

What to remember when investing at the deep end
• Ask an independent financial adviser to assess the merits of the latest schemes.
• Remember there is nearly always a steep minimum investment - usually about £25,000 ($36K USD in 2016).
• Look for the silver lining - even if nothing of value is found, the investment can reduce your tax bill.
Don't hold your breath in the highly unlikely event that something is found - the investment will be a success only once the cheque is actually in your hand.

@CaptBayerle hope you do, from the footage I've seen, very little progress seemed to be made. Getting to the gold seems impossible.
