The scene with the Chinese press was very telling.

I go back and forth between admiring and respecting Anna, and just rolling my eyes. I feel she contradicts herself in a lot of ways. She and her partner scoffed at the Chinese journalist for "politicizing" fashion, while at the same time, she (Anna) is constantly trying to sell the idea that fashion is all about social commentary and not just aesthetic. So, which is it? If fashion is more than just about clothes and appearances, then you should be more aware of the social responsibility behind it, which is what the Chinese journalist was trying to bring up. I think it was a legitimate question that was being posed, and Anna and her partner did not handle it with much grace or class. Yes, it's fantasy. Yes, it's pretty. But it's because of the whole "fantasy" idea that designers and people like Anna can easily turn a blind eye to animal cruelty or sweatshops. Fashion will never be taken seriously as an art form because it is so far removed from reality, including the ugly parts of reality.

Agree 100%. They want to represent Chinese culture, yet they are quick to write off the Chinese journalist who poses valid questions.
