A waste of time...

The Netflix feature-length movie, Bright, is pretty terrible. The story was unfortunately confusing and not fully realized on screen. I know it was supposed to be a commentary on society or race relations, but I don't think it did much to further that discussion along.

Neither Will Smith or Joel Edgerton are sympathetic characters or ones that I even found myself caring too much about. It's a pity too, because Max Landis, the writer, also wrote 'Chronicle' and that was some amazing storytelling with great character development.

Bright is scattered in the story, trying to push too much into the runtime without appropriate foundation.

Overall, I found it to be more of a waste of my time than anything.

I would have preferred it to be less violent and less shallow in its racial social messages and in its abrupt ending, but overall I sat through it without problem. It's a Shadowrun-inspired movie without trolls and I didn't find it confusing. It just depicts an alternative world in which coexist humans and fantasy creatures and where magic can be totally powerful. Not a lot of information is given on the dark lord, but may be provided in the promising sequel.
