No FDA?

I guess in the universe of this show, the FDA has no teeth. They did any number of procedures and treatments that would be subject to trials in order to be done legally in the U.S.

Also they seemed to blow their wad on the woo-woo technology in the first episode. One can only guess how ridiculous it's going to get as the series progresses. I predict the use of any one of shamans, poison dilutions, herbal remedies, magnet therapy, etc. before long.

One more thing: I'm an atheist, not a militant one, yet even I spotted that subtle slight at Christians by having the covertly abusive husband be ultra religious.

Forget FDA, what about HIPAA? Gosh darn I miss the good old days.

What happens if they have ever have an episode where the patient dies? All that hope and saccherin will be gone. I don't see this series getting renewed.

That's just my two cents.

reply

I didn't see it as a slight to Christians but rather a reality. My ultra religious now ex husband was verbally and emotionally abusive. I got out before it became physical.

reply

I have an anecdote too about an atheist being the most abusive person I know. I guess that means they're all bad.

reply

Yeah and do you have an anecdote of an atheist being abusive because they think their toxic actions are justified by a religious belief?

If anything, the biggest slight against christianity is the way the one christian character acts: insufferable and full of himself, under a false act of modesty. Like a lot of real christians.

reply

I know two devoutly Christian men who have never hit a woman or child. That is also reality.

Didn't vote for him, but he's headed the right way with the EPA, so maybe we'll get some relief from all of these federal regulations.

trump and his cabinet of monsters are going to wipe out all regulations. Our air, ground and water will be poisoned like never before. Everyone will be dying of cancers, lung disease, liver disease, neurological problems.

This is actually going to happen.

You are a moron for listening to right wing propaganda. Anything for corporate profit! Greed is good!

No go kill yourself, please.

Would it make you feel better if I called you a bunch of names & insulted you? I'd think someone as smart as you would realize doing so reflects poorly on one's intellect.

I'd also think someone as smart as you would realize there are already 50 state-level EPA regulatory organizations so your fearmongering scenario will never take place. Someone with your mental capacity should also realize that this type of function is a state-level power under Article 1 Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, as well as know the difference between general and specific welfare.

Try being nice to others and perhaps the world will become a better place, or just keep hurling insults and wonder why it continues to get worse over time.

I caught that too. I was pleased to see a Christian couple on screen that openly expressed their faith. Then brought back-to-Earth when the husband was revealed to be abusive. It added nothing to the story. C'est la vie.

No offense, but sometimes I think people read too much into story lines. The abusive husband being ultra religious-so? Abusive partners do come in different packages(& I am Catholic). Is tv now not supposed to have any background to characters? It's just I read this on just about every forum for the shows I watch(and I watch quite the variety). There always seems to be an "agenda" with the writers according to some viewers. There very well could be, but unless like I said they give absolutely no background to any of the characters, there's going to be a little religion, political-side, ethnicity, etc put into a character in order to create a story. It's a medical show so undoubtedly there would a story line that had some kind of religious tone to it(faith vs science so to speak) at some point.

reply

The FDA is the just the tip of the iceberg. Most of the science fiction procedures they perform on this show are IMPOSSIBLE! I don't see this show lasting very long because it's too redundant & unrealistic. Maybe 2 or 3 years if even that long.

But I like the ever optimistic concept though.

Jesus NEVER existed! He is Judeo Christian MYTH!

since when does unrealistic bother you?

Not a very logical observation, though.

First, there's no entitlement to any positive depictions for any religious group... or atheists.

Secondly, please post the link to the research you found which suggests that of all religious groups, Christians are the least likely to include batterers. Or, and this is what I suspect is going on here, have you never actively sought knowledge of the facts on this matter?

The patriarchal religions teach male supremacist views and female inferiority views, so the ultra religious are the first place to look when searching for the entitled, the violent and the irrational.

I'm not being snarky. Look up the quality most common to terrorists or to perpetrators of mass murders - batterers. Domestic violence batterers. And, a religious zealotry magnifies the delusions, the destruction... the evil.

This topic has been in the news a lot since the Orlando attack and since the trump assault on American tolerance and freedoms. The questions arose because the Orlando shooter yelled something about Islamic extremism before he died, but nothing in his history showed any alliance at all. What was found was a domestic violence history. Did religion foster hatred towards gay folk... sure, that's what patriarchal religions do. But, when profiling to weed out perpetrators of acts of mass violence, it's domestic violence that's the reliable "red flag." Do some research.

Then you proceed to post a rambling illogical rant about politics. You just come across as little more than a hopelessly credulous partisan Chicken Little. At what point did I claim anything about the rate of abuse amongst religious versus irreligious? You're obviously using an argument technique taught to you but at a C- student level as you're demanding a citation for a claim that was never made. Also at what point did I mention anything about the election or Islamic terror? I suggest you shove aside the self-destructive feminist dogma in your impressionable brain for some actual logic taught by someone who isn't a social Marxist. Your thoughts are being controlled by people who have sold you a false narrative about your moral and social superiority due to your genitals. You may not see it right now but clinging to this narrative too closely is going to make for a very unhappy life that will lead you to a level of self-destruction and nihilism that will pull away from all people of all persuasions.

Wilde -

Your post is rife with negative, personal assumptions. You do know that this form of deflection is the tactic of the fact-less and as such, is readily dismissed, right?

Also, you appear to be suffering a reading comprehension problem. (Or, if I was unclear, you are going to have to point it out.)

You are questioning the use of a specific religion being associated with a character whom is a batterer. (as if that weren't reflective of reality)

At what point did I claim anything about the rate of abuse amongst religious versus irreligious?

Can you quote what I wrote that led you to think that? ^^^

All religions are not male-supremacist based but the ones that are, like all supremacist ideologies, do support the entitlement views of batterers.

On this point - that you suggest my motivation is political partisanism... gee, or maybe my children and grandchildren were in Orlando when the shooting happened and our family was lucky enough to only be terrified of loss rather than suffering so much more as others did?

And, maybe this increase in religious bigotry and in-fighting between religious groups for whom are the chosen ones, whom are the superior group, etc... SUPPORTS terrorism by taking the focus off of actual, effective, known factors to use for profiling? Get a clue!

Being a hateful sort (male-supremacist version), your disinformation regarding feminism is clear.

Your thoughts are being controlled by people who have sold you a false narrative about your moral and social superiority due to your genitals.

Feminists are men and women whom recognize and value EQUALITY, being fair-minded. It's the patriarchs whom are the supremacists. If you recognize the equality of women then you are a feminist.

A supremacist view is ALWAYS based on a lack of knowledge, willful ignorance and self-service and to maintain such illogical, hateful views, many become violent. There's no difference between a sex-based supremacist or a race-based supremacist except one group based their delusion of superiority on genitalia while the other group uses a different body organ, skin, as their claim to fame. LOL

But, we can't just laugh them off.

The male-supremacists don't like the spotlight being shone on them when it comes to their violent brothers being the #1 group that commits acts of mass murder. Forget religion and politics and give FACTS a chance.

For those reasons, I support the media depictions in tv shows and films, of the connection between domestic violence and adherence to male-supremacist-based religions.

I assume it's lazy writing from the writers, they probably never heard of the FDA like most Americans.

I've read on a few libertarian sites that the FDA is too strict and can hold up trials too long. Some thing it should be abolished others think less strict.

I think the problem with the writers, and many other people, is they assume if you look into something you'll get the result you want. People have been looking into a cure for AIDS, but all we have is a serious of pills that leaves you sick but lets you live longer, no cure. I've known people in real life who insist there are several cures but there is less money in cures.

Too be honest I think we're just living in the early stages of modern medicine. Thanks to various vaccinations people are unfamiliar with WHY kids need vaccinations. The thought that there could be a horrible disease with no cure seems like a horror story to many people but that's been human history up until recently.

The problem is the average person has little self control and not taught to use critical thinking. Look up over use of antibiotics. Some people want antibiotics for everything because they think it's magic in a syringe or a pill. So some people's immune system is weaker while there are more drug resistant viruses because people think they need to clean their counters with antibiotic wipes.

Hell, look up info about drug resistant STDs.
