At the very beginning one of the TV sports reporters said something along the lines of her being the first female athlete to compete in the 4 North American major sports leagues. But Manon Rhéaume played for the Tampa Bay Lightening back in 93. I think she played a few seasons with them to.

She played one period in 92 and a full game in 93. Both of which were exhibition games.

So yeah, the girl in Pitch is the 'first'.
