The movie wasn't about what her answer was, it's what yours would be or mine would be. It's easy to call names and act like a prick when you're safe behind your screen but put yourself in her shoes. Imagine what your life would become if someone in your family was convicted of similar or worse charges.
She had a valid point, it was completely possible that her brother would have never become violent. At the same time, he was aiding other potential extremists. Was locking him up justified? Yes, but no where does it say that everyone has to agree with that conclusion, especially the person's family.
