20 years later and...

...Tori Spelling still cannot act.

An interesting concept sunk by lousy co-starring actors (Franco an exception). The leads were good as was Bob (sort of a co-lead)but everyone else was terrible.

Oops one more exception, Ivan who played the morbid class teacher was very good. But he was not in this nearly enough to make a difference. Maybe if he had played Leia's dad and Tori was a cameo role???

The girls playing the older vamps (never got how old or any background whatsoever) were pretty but had no menacing vibe about them at all. Had they, the threat their characters represented would have been potent. And really though, in the script, what was the threat? They'd turn Leia if Pearl did not? I figured as retribution for killing one of their own when first turned they'd kill Pearl if she didn't repay them with another member of their club (remember one said "You owe us"?) But no that never seemed to be in the plan.

And why at the end did the gang (not killed as I would have imagined since the first vamp died so easily) go back to the Halloween party a year later and not be tracking down Pearl and Leia?

Entertaining enough to make it through but no second viewing.

Some very interesting observations you've made. I'm most certain I didn't see the original, and only saw so much of Spelling's works in the past, so I can't comment much on her acting skills. I do agree the acting of the lead actresses was pretty good, and they were the ones that kept me to the viewing (please see the thread I introduced: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5480528/board/thread/258604159). I didn't think much of Ivan's role, he was so minor and just served as a back drop to the metaphors, cliches, and what not of the times and literature, whether they proved relevant or not.

I noticed you put your take on the endings (spoilers) hidden, nice touch! There's been more discussion on folks' takes on all that, and I'd commented on the thread. It's always great to hear other points of view, and perhaps I may have responded to your take on all the chaos throughout the story and to the end, so do check out this thread also: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5480528/board/thread/258472434

She has always been flat; meaning to me nothing behind the lines. So as in the past she was in this - flat.

But she is a working actress and so who am I to judge? Dads name only goes so far.

One other thing. I was lead to believe by the media that Franco directed. That was a disappointment to find he did not.

Also, I clicked on your links and they took to a generic page with dozens of hyperlinks leading to various topics. So I was not able to read what you previously posted.

The mother was awful. She has no real reason to for disliking Pearl aside from her being a lesbian and her listening to that loser made her look even worst.

Pearl and Leah falling for each other was nice but I agree why it was important that Leah be turned and by who did not make sense. I could understand whatever vampire turns her has power over her like on True Blood.

I still liked the movie just the same.

The lore was not defined very well. Pearl killing a vamp seemingly so easy made it seem they were like many vamps on TV today, immortal but vulnerable to injury if not disease (thinking of the way they were portrayed in the recent season of American Horror Story and in the 80's novel\film The Hunger). Then we find the sunlight rule applies, and they are not as easy to kill as insinuated. Guess Pearl just got in a lucky shot! But they apparently cannot move all that fast, turn into bats or wolves, become mist, fly, or have any other super powers (at least none that were on display).

Yes there were problems with them being vampires but not having what we have come to know about them such as turning into bats, wolves, mists, flying, and the most obvious which was the ability to hypnotize which is also missing. Vampires are supposed to be these hard to kill immortal creatures.

I still liked the movie but that did bother me some as I have said their reason for Pearl turning Leah as opposed to them doing it. I could understand if the lore of the movie was that whatever vampire turns her has control over her or has some psychic connection.
