Profoundly disappointing movie...

Heard lots of good things, but it turned out to be so maudlin and melodramatic. They could have cut an hour of useless talk from this movie.

Good God you’re a MORON. Great film, cinematography and story telling. Awesome acting. Sorry there wasn’t an explosion every two minutes for you. Don’t come here and spew your negativity on a good film. You should stick to Michael Bay movies

reply

A bit harsh. I love westerns and I enjoyed this film. Not everyone comes with the same appreciation or knowledge of the genre. Doesn’t mean they’re morons just unexposed. I bet if coleburg sat down and watched Hostiles with you, and you were nice enough to point out the great things in this film as you watched he would find a new appreciation.

reply

Yeah, I guess you’re right

Then why not edit the insult from your original post?

Or apologize?

reply

It was a bit contrived.

reply

and a bit ponderous. well-intentioned, but they could have tightened it up.

reply

It was a bit too meandering...they could have cut 30 minutes...
'Tightened Up' is correct

5/10 from me. Much prefer 3:10 to yuma, even though the acting in Hostiles is vastly superior. It was just too slow, but not for the sake of a great and fleshed out story, they could have cut a lot from this movie.

And I like slow movies, but there was nothing to keep me interested in it, except maybe for the characters's relationships due to the great acting.

Some folks complained that The Revenant was boring, but in that movie the main character's journey was much more interesting than in Hostiles, I was very curious to see how he reached safe haven, and I enjoyed every step of the way.

Funny you mention The Revenant, because I was also reminded of it while watching Hostiles, in that both were very slow-paced journeys through the wilderness. However, as you pointed out, The Revenant had a story that kept you cheering on for the main character. You wanted to see him exact his revenge in the end. In Hostiles, the overall tone of the story was hopelessness. It felt pointless for the party to go on. Great acting and cinematography, though. I confess, I have a soft spot for Rosamund Pike.

Bone Tomahawk was 100x better.

LOL.

This move really focused on hate, grief, redemption, and death. These are definitely melodramatic emotions. The dialogue created for a great character study. Some movies are made for this type of direction and this was one of them.
