BORING

God, all the action in this movie was shown in the trailer, the rest of it was dull hard-to-hear dialogue and camping scenes. I should've guessed as much during Oscar season. False advertising, movie!

Foebane, how old are you?

reply

What does that matter?

reply

Did you watch it in the theatre?

reply

Yes. The main problem I had was that Bale and a few of the other actors mostly mumbled, or didn't speak clearly that I could hear. I was trying to eat popcorn quietly, but that shouldn't be an issue.

Ironically, the subtitles were the only times I understood perfectly.

reply

haha... yeah... the mumble acting can be overdone sometimes, but I tend to not let it bother me... i just assume that I'm not meant to hear every word 😁

I haven't seen Hostiles yet as it showed at my local theatre for only one week! I liked Out of the Furnace, which is by the same director and I thought Black Mass was passable...

reply

I am glad it wasn't just me that had a hard time making out all the dialogue. I really hate it when that happens.

reply

I couldn't understand a lot of what they were saying, it was terrible. Had I been able to hear everything they said it might have been a better movie for me.

reply

I liked the first hour, even hour and a half maybe, but then it got really lugubrious and sort of petered out.

I agree, the whole first act was great and the plot had so much potential, but everything went downhill from there starting with that ultra-contrived fur trapper episode (which came out of nowhere and left just as quickly). From there it got pretentious (e.g. Sgt. Metz' apology in the rain) and, like you say, unrelentingly morose.

reply

That's a good way of stating it, "unrelentingly morose"..because I was just saw it and was thinking it could just be retitled, "Everyone dies" lol
I liked it though..I liked the pacing, the atmosphere...the kind that I think Westerns were made for. It was like travelling along with these people...seemed like the journey was the destination for the viewer, you know? I

reply

Yeah, it was like a Western "road movie," but with trails.

It had it's good points.
