Upset.

Clearly been excited about the new hellraiser, thinking all along Clive Barker would be back to direct, with Doug Bradley as pinhead, with a modest budget, and a theatrical release. Now I realize the director of the new one.....wrote the last one. Anyone else concerned? Tell me it's OK.

This isn't the reboot. The Weinsteins have managed to stall the reboot so long they had to make two low budget DTV movies for the sole purpose of holding onto the rights.

Any new Hellraiser movie created since Hellbound is cause for concern.

See... yeah... I know Revelations is a TERRIBLE movie. Under no circumstances is it a GOOD movie of ANY KIND, never mind Hellraiser... but for some reason it's one of my little guilty pleasures! I know I'm horrible!
But yeah... if it's the same writer as that one? Seeing a scream queen in the cast is not going to stop me from shuddering in the wrong kind of horror. I agree that this is VERY worrisome. But, being the completist I am... I'll try it!

... We are all animals my lady. Some of us simply chose not to see it.

I think Gary Tunnicliffe's writing was the least of Revelations' problems. A fan-film written by Mario Puzo would probably go direct-to-video too.

Oh! And I forgot to mention that after reading the "Trivia" for this movie, I'm even MORE upset. Can't anyone bring it back to the original Barker cannon in which th cenobites were not from Hell and had nothing to do with being genuine demons?
Seriously! Pinhead couldn't give a flying *beep* what you've done with your life! The Cenobites are about DESIRE.

reply

That's my #1 pet peeve with this franchise. The cenobites as impartial explorers are FAR more interesting than demons who act like super-zealous sado-Christians.

reply

Barker doesn't want to go back to that canon either. They're very much just demons in The Scarlet Gospels

reply

It seems like at some point Clive decided to go with the flow and write the Hellraiser mythology according to the common misconception that the cenobites are from the Judeo-Christian Hell and punish the wicked. He went from being pissed off at how the mythology was portrayed in Hellraiser: Inferno to portraying it the same way over a decade later.

Movie was be cheap looking and really crap. I was hoping for a real reboot. The budget is penny's. I have no faith in this at all.

reply

Concerned? Technically, no, since I'm pretty sure it will suck and will not be getting my hopes up. But it can't be much worse than the last couple films, right?

And mrpink is right about Barker. You really don't want him coming back to the series.

Thit and thpin!
