Loved it, but have a question about a crucial plot point (spoilers)

Did Deadpool convince Russell not to take up a life of violence as he lay dying after being shot, or was that BEFORE Cable accidentally shot him? I can't quite remember, but I couldn't help thinking that when Cable went back in time to place the lead token on Deadpool to prevent his fatal injury, that Deadpool's entire speech to Russell was UNDONE.

Was that what happened, or did Deadpool's message still get through?
