I just walked in from seeing The Big Sick....and....

I Liked It.

I thought Kumail Nanjiani did it a good job in the lead role.

Zoe Kazan was super-cute and I liked her too as his love interest.

It's a slow burn romantic comedy... so if you aren't willing to put your time in---you should avoid this one.

My only gripe is that I wish that they had developed the romance between the two leads a bit more... before the Big Sick. Once that happens, you don't quite feel like they had a real deep connection when they were dating. They should have spent just five more minutes developing their romance.

The movie goes on a deep level with concern to being Pakistani/Indian/Muslim and living as an American and trying to adhere to older cultures.

I really liked the movie too and I thought Nanjiani and Kazan were very good together. One of the better romantic comedies i've seen in w while.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here- https://youtu.be/3iHcRFXwEss

I zaw it and ze movie was very great (sic-to give you a dose of your own medicine). Not just clashes but as the title says, Zoe Kazan gets sick.ANd leaves the screen part of time.

Very good film. The only thing is that it's a bit long. Maybe should have cut a few more scenes. But great job otherwise. 9/10

I thought this movie was excellent. It's in my top ten for the year so far. I love Kumail Nanjiani. He is super funny. I loved Ray Romano and Holly Hunter. They were perfect as Emily's parents. I think you're right though about developing the romance part, it was kind of skimpy. I thought maybe, since it was based on their real romance, it may have been too intimate to share. Although, there were plenty of sex scenes. I have some Pakistani friends and one of them did have a "love" match and luckily the girl was also a Muslim, but it was pretty crazy for them. The groom's parents were beside themselves that the didn't know the bride's family. It all worked out but of that group of friends, they are the only ones that had a love match. All the others I know were all arranged, even the ones who were born in the USA. I have to say, it kind of shocked me in real life so I kind of liked that the movie talked about this so thoughtfully. I gives one a little insight into the culture.

It was an enjoyable film. It was well written.

It was too bad the projector in the theater had a bulb that was just about dead. It was so bad that I could hardly see a thing in the early dark scenes.

All more or less positive reviews???might have to give Judd another chance!

I really liked it as well and I believe the rest of the audience did too - there was a curious happy little snuffly sigh at the final scene before the credit rolled. I would have enjoyed a little more of the happy romantic stage but I'm not sure what could have been added to strengthen the connection - which after all had to break before the 2nd act.

I really enjoyed it and thought they struck a good balance between the romance, the humour and the emotional side when Emily is sick.

I really liked the dads character, I thought his 'bad' jokes were hilarious (but perhaps for the wrong reasons).. I laughed when he told Emily to be careful not to go into a coma when she goes for a walk 😂 I also found the scene where Emily is being grumpy because she needs the toilet really funny (and relatable for a new relationship!!)

I was disappointed that they felt the need to have the family disown him, considering that apparently didn't really happen.. but I did find the scene where he went to the dinner with the conversation cards very funny too!!
