Goodnight Moon?

From what I know of this book, it does fit with the plot. But, is Goodnight Moon a thing in Russia? So much so, that a Russian cosmonaut would be influenced by it and bring it into space with her? Any of the American astronauts could've brought it on board. Why the Russian?

It's a little thing, but it don't make no sense.
