Oh good. Another science-as-horror-movie plot.

Big budget. Big cast. Lots of potential. Then...

Does this formula make money? That's the only reason I can imagine we keep seeing it over and over; Interesting scientific premise shot into the dust by monsters. So silly. So very silly. I would have expected more from Jake Gyllenhaal, but I guess a guy has to put food on the table.

But it won't be my money paying for that food.

It's a horror movie for the masses - who are basically science-illiterate. They need action and monsters and explosions and they are easily frightened.

We might have to wait for Star Trek: Discovery if we want some optimistic science fiction.

It's not "optimistic" science fiction I'm after; It's SCIENCE science fiction I want. You want "monster" SF? Watch "The Andromeda Strain" - that's a science / horror story; This silly "alien thing possesses crew / makes monsters / threatens everyone" simply idiotic and is frankly beneath my, and it appears your, intelligence. The only way this foolishness ends is when folks start avoiding these wastes of time.
