Cake and Prison Escape Questions

I might just be dense but there are some things that happened in the movie I don't understand. I am only 1 hour 15 minutes in so they might be explained later.

1. Why did Adam Driver's character get himself locked up? Joe Bang didn't appear to need him there to escape. Did I miss something?

2. What was the purpose of sending the cake? Wouldn't the roaches have made it to the vault anyway? They would have still called the exterminators from the group and would have identified them.

the logans had the foresight to know that once daniel craig was laid up in the infirmary, he'd need an escort to the restroom,
they also knew that adam driver would be assigned to mopping the area weeks in advance *rolls eyes*

i am assuming the cake was meant to give a reason for the roaches being there, but what about the areas where the other tubes wound up??
