Are we supposed to like Logan?

I don't understand the motivation behind the creation of Logan's character. He's too spineless to stand up to his dad about this marriage, so he gleefully has an affair with Rory, and he surrounds himself with literally the worst group of people imaginable. The I'm rich attitude of buying businesses just to shut down everyone's good time and be the center of attention is douche-baggery on a different level.

Driving drunk around around town, talking down to regular people, there's nothing likable or even enjoyable about Logan's entire existence.

reply

No. The reason people like him is his good looks! If he was gross everyone would hate him.

reply

Obvious everybody would hate him. Totally.

reply

He is my least favorite of Rory's lovers. Also, I never really thought he was that attractive, though I will admit, he was looking kinda right in A Year in the Life lol. Still, Jess and Dean are more attractive in my opinion.

reply

He is way too generic looking. One of those guys who is supposed to be attractive to everyone because he is white, blonde and symmetrical.

Boring.

I do agree that he looked better in the revival. Some years added a tiny bit more character to his face. He will probably look even better when he is 45.

reply

Exactly! I think he is so basic looking. He is obviously an attractive guy, but there isn't anything out of this world about him. I could go to the mall and maybe find a few guys that look like him.

lol! And a big yes.
I never understood the appeal. He was charming at the beginning, he's definitely smart, but unfortunately, that, next to his snobbish flaws - kind of evaporates. Surprisingly, I think it's the money that plays a part, too, as shallow as it might be. Some people mention that as one of his appeals, 'rich - and douchy'. Ugh.

And also, there's the old one "if you can't figure out a person, look at who his friends are" - Colin and Finn. I rest my case. B)

reply

I think the bigger question is are you supposed to like Rory? As a major character we might expect to like her but apparently a majority of fans don't like her anymore. IMO is no one likes either Rory or Logan then maybe they deserve to be with one another.

reply

It's too bad what they did to Rory's character. Cheating is one thing, but she was completely remorseless.

reply

I got the sense she was jealous, like the way Rory would say "she." But hey she was apart of the agreement too.

reply

A sociopath would be that.

Blocking anyone subscribing to the moronic alpha/beta tripe.

reply

I never liked Rory very much. I couldn't care less about her career or boyfriends. Only when she was part of the Emily/Lorelai family drama did I find her relevant. That was the best part of the show for me.

I don't patronize bunny rabbits!!

reply

Great question. I've never liked him. I only assumed the inner materialist version of Rory that she's always suppressed because of her mom is why they're together. Good things about Logan? He's hot. He's rich.

reply

He doted on Rory and treated her like a Queen for the most part. I quite liked his character. He was literally the only reason I watched the series.

reply

The Logan character is spoiled, selfish, reckless. He is a toxic character.

reply

I didn't like Logan early on either, but he grew on me in late Season 6/Season 7. The problem is that ASP clearly prefers Season 6 man-whore Logan, and that's what we got.

reply

I think ASP disregarded much of the character development that happened with Logan in later parts of the original series. Whether its lazy writing on her part or what but she seriously could have done something better to both Rory and Logan's character. She could have made Logan a better person but no... instead we get this Freudian regurgitation of a character who's supposed to be Christopher v2.0.

And its sad because Matt Czuchry is better than what he eventually got in the revival.

reply

Logan is the boyfriend from Rory's grandparents world. He was kind of Tristan 2.0 and definitely has some Christopher about him. It makes sense that Rory would meet guys like Logan at Yale and through her grandparents, and it was probably inevitable that she would date at least one of them.

I've always been of two minds about Logan. I don't think he's all that good for Rory and I probably wouldn't want to know him personally, but I find him enjoyable to watch. Matt Czuchry does a good job with him and makes Logan charming and charismatic, smart and quick witted enough to keep up the banter. He infused Rory's storyline with a new energy when he showed up in season 5 so I see why they kept him around.

I would have preferred if their arrangement in the revival happened while both of them were actually single/ only dating others casually like they tried in season 5. Then there wouldn't be the whole ick of adultery attached to it.

reply

Well Logan was created to be Tristan 2.0 wasnt he? I thought that was stated. CMM was too big on one tree hill to come back to reprise the role and thus Logan was born.

reply

I did not like Logan the first time around and thought he was written to be douch-y, but then when I saw the chatter surrounding this revival I was shocked that he is many people's favorite Rory boyfriend!

He is attractive and I think genuinely cared about Rory back in college, but obvious that in 2015 he is not in love with her. Nobody in love would keep them as a sidepiece like that, or treat their fiance like that. He is so spoiled I just don't see the appeal.

I disagree with this assessment of Logan. Its clear he doesnt love his fiance, but I do think he loves Rory. His "fiance" seemed like a busniess arrangement set up by his father at least that was the vibe I got with the way both Logan and his father talked about it.

Also remember Rory doesnt want to date him. In fact she is the one who is pissed/ annoyed that Logan takes her to brunch at a restaurant that his father owns and runs into him. She wants to be hidden. why? because she doesnt want to date him.

Logan is my second fav boyfriend of Rorys, AND the rivival almost seems like they ignored season 7 logan. Logan changed in season 7 imo. Dean, who is her worst boyfriend got the superstar cameo first love when he was the first one that made him a mistress.

Jess has always been the one. and Im not sure why they didnt just end it with the two of them getting together unless they're begging for more episodes/ a spin off. contrary to popular belief, Milo isnt that busy on This is us since His character is dead and hes only in flashbacks

reply

Can I add one thing? The pathetic attempt to make him somehow charming because he continues to call Rory "Ace".

reply

Add that one to the long list of reasons I've always disliked Logan. I don't know why him calling her Ace always annoyed me, but maybe that's it - he was trying to seem charming. He just came off as slimy to me.

reply

Ace does not seem like a nickname you'd call your girlfriend/mistress to be endearing. It honestly sounds more like a little kids nickname rather than one for an adult (unless it was like a military nickname or essentially the name a person went by with everyone). I didn't see the later seasons of GG but this nickname bugged me in the revival. There is just nothing romantic to it so it sounds weird to me. I also agree it sounds smarmy at times.

reply

Ugh, that pet name always made me gag.

reply

Ugh I always hated that nickname. It made Logan even more smarmy in my eyes than he already was.
