So Nolan Ryan Threw A 108 MPH Fastball?

That's a little hard to believe.

Randy Johnson over a 22-year career KO'd 4875 hitters. He is #2 All-Time, beating Roger Clemens who has 4672. It is more than a 10% drop (500 KO's) to #4, Steve Carlton.

Nolan has 5714.

He sits 20% higher than any other pitcher in history, and we have since found out that Clemens was even using roids to boost his performance.

That is hard to believe.

Less than 30 pitchers have thrown a No-Hitter in 120 years of baseball. Only 7 have thrown more than 1. Sandy Koufax threw 4 (!!!), and only three pitchers threw 3 (Larry Corcoran's last one in 1884 ... 133 years ago ... Cy Young's last in 1908 ... 108 years ago, and Bob Feller, last one in 1951 ... 65 years ago).

Nolan threw 7.

As much as any two pitchers in history combined. Leave out Koufax and you need THREE OF THE BEST IN HISTORY to match or exceed his personal total. His last one in 1991, at the age of 44.

That is hard to believe.

Anybody who follows baseball stats in a serious way knows without a doubt Nolan was the hardest thrower in the history of the sport.

I follow baseball stats seriously and I am far from convinced, and far from unconvinced on that point.

Ryan threw harder longer, but was he faster than Bob Feller? Sandy Koufax? Lefty Grove? Goose Gossage? Aroldis Champman? Maybe he was, but are we certain?
