The most simple movie about everything

I always thought Addison Timlin was more than a pretty face, but didn't expect this. She was amazing. I'm not saying Oscar worthy, but right there. I think what works so well for me is the flashbacks show "regular people' and the current day is "real problems." Of course, they're magnified to make a 90 minute movie work, but it's not overdone. The scene at the end with Ally Sheedy and Timlin is the entire movie, but somehow it's not superfluous. It needed that scene, to show the fragile nature of family and life. Is it the best movie of 2016, as the New Yorker stated? Probably not, but it's definitely worthy of some high praise.

While I was watching, I thought to myself, it wouldn't be crazy if she got an oscar nomination, though I doubt she would have. She did a really good job. Great movie.

I know she won't, because she hasn't paid her dues in Hollywood really, but she was amazing. I hope she pulls some minor awards along the way. I've always liked her, of course, because she's beautiful, but that's what I loved about her in this. It was all her ability. While the ending felt a little forced, she was perfect. I also loved thought Sheedy was solid and I couldn't help but feel she was the "grown up" version of her character in The Breakfast Club.

Totally got the same feeling there! I'm sure it was a conscious casting choice. Even the way she was made to look, with her somewhat unkempt dark hair, was a nice nod to The Breakfast Club. And her monologue at the end was really powerful. Another great performance, though by a minor character, was the brother's fiancee. She played a very complex character with very few words to convey it. All around great acting in this flick.

Agreed. At first I felt that the brother's fiance was just the "hot girl" to make his ignoring of her mean more, but then you realized she'd given up her life and was being ignored and she was as much a victim. The scene where she wears the same thing she used to tempt him, to go on her webcam was a strong message about needs/doing what makes you "happy" vs making others happy. Even the stripper's message was strong. Like you said, the acting was great all around.

It was so slowww paced i could cry. I wanted to like it but turned off at the 40 minute mark. Couldn't take anymore. Too boring.
