I want to see if they dare to do the same approach in Saudy Arabia.

I want to see if they dare to do the same approach in Saudy Arabia, let's see if that one really happens.

Well, it seems like Jamaica is more likely to change given time. They seem lately ignorant about it, like America, especially the South, in the 90s. Hopefully, that will change. Saudis are behind on many many more human rights issues.

reply

What comparison are you trying to make? I don't think anyone would deny that it's horrible for gay people there.

reply

poor you 😭

reply

Poor what? What point are you trying to make? That Saudi Arabia isn't horrible?

reply

I'd love it if they could come here (Lebanon)!!!

Some very interesting gay-life in these parts.

reply

Really? How is gay-life there?

reply

Discreet, not as dangerous as Saudi for sure.
Even though it is illegal, it is more accepted than any other arab country i think.
We've had protests on IDAHOT, against the penal code that is used to criminalize gay sex, but at the same time we've had church officials forcefully cancel events on that day because "abominations have no place here".
We have a vibrant nightlife (not just the gay scene, but you know how gays love a party).
Unfortunately the business men decided to divide the LGBT clubs so that they have their own crowds, like "Darkbox" is for Trans people, "Posh" and "Ego" are for gay people, and "Rumour" and "M" are for Lesbians... So there's a certain divide in the community.
It's not as openly talked about as places like Brazil I think, so we've created our own subculture.
In smaller towns it can be the harshest, with sectarian religious, family and cultural ties. I come from a small town but i was incredibly lucky that my dad didn't kill me when I came out. He's actually a wonderful man. Others are not so lucky...
There's more but i don't want to bore you haha

reply

I'm glad to know that, bro. Several times I heard horrible things happen to LGBT ppl in arab countries. It's good to know the environment is not that harsh in your country. In China, even LGBT is legal, we can't protest in public nor have gay characters in TV shows. I noticed that you said "church". You mean Christian church?

reply

Yes, even though the country is majority muslim, the Catholic Church is very active when it comes to silencing gay people and advocating "conversion".
I haven't seen too much interference from Muslim authorities, but I'm sure when it comes to family dynamic, Islam is much harsher on gay people.

We've have gay characters on TV, but they are stereotypical and a joke. Like for example on TV the gay guy will go to the supermarket and ask for "the biggest cucumber" and starts making orgasm sounds. It's a bad image.

The younger generation is more accepting, but the old farts in office are a problem.

The reason we were protesting wasn't only because of the penal code.
Every once in a while, the law enforcement will raid a gay club and sieze men and transwomen and take them to the detention center, where they will force them to strip and put things in their ass and make fun of them and keep them there. The country is corrupt so no one can really stop it... So we protest.

I hope it gets better for China! Chinese are very very hardworking people.

reply

Thank you for your compliment. The situation in China almost like that in Japan, or maybe slightly better. Most Chinese are not religious, so we generally don't have the religious pressure. Our government just don't encourage nor strongly against LGBT. I think our pressure mainly come from our families, or maybe I just don't give a damn to other ppl other than my loved ones. hahaha.
The gay character thing sounds suck. Why don't ppl just respect each other? I guess the world just so damn weird. Ppl can hate us because of our private affairs.

reply

Exactly.
To be honest, considering the overpopulation problem in China, the government should be begging people to go gay!! Haha

reply

Unfortunately, the government recently made a "two-children policy" to replace the "one-child policy". They wanna more children to solve the aging population problem. There is a sociologist who submits proposals to the authority in order to legalize gay marriage. However, she fails every time. With the disapproving of the government and hatred of many ppl, I don't see it's gonna happen in my lifetime, even the younger generation are more open-minded.

reply

Considering that homosexuality (and women not acting like second class citizens) is LEGALLY punishable, that would be suicide. There's a big difference between going to a country that's homophobic socially and another that's homophobic legally. They would at best get attacked or arrested, and best get raped, tortured, jailed or murdered.

reply

Good job for pointing people at the fact that they're so unaccepted in some countries that they will be killed for it! You should be proud of yourself!

No [x42] I don't know why you bother
