lacking any originality, riding solely on the brand of the Archie comics without which this load of crap would not air more than 1 season. There is not one endearing character not one decent actor except for maybe the older actors. This is a sleazefest with the characters called Archie, Betty, Veronica but have nothing to do with Archie, Betty and Veronica and does not in any way capture the essence of Riverdale town.

As someone who read the comics back in the day, I have to admit that I was intrigued when I heard about this show. Imagine my surprise when it had a murder-mystery type plot. I figured I'd see if it could become a guilty pleasure show...
Honestly.... I'm just kind of confused.
The pilot is a bit much. Archie's all hunky, wanting to get into music, and is sleeping with the cougar music teacher, Betty's on meds with an overbearing mother, Veronica is kissing Betty at cheerleader try outs to add some "sizzle", and then they throw Josie and the Pussycats in there as well..... Like, what's going on here? They're trying too hard to make it edgy and it's just coming off as odd. I though there would be some resemblance to the comics - but you're right OP. Besides their names, there's no similarity. It's just a hook to get comic book Archie people (like me) to tune in while still appealing to a Pretty Little Liars audience....
I try not to judge shows based on the pilot, so I might give it another episode or two before I decide if it's a show for my tastes. Right now..... not so much.
I never read the Archie comics..if I did..id prolly feel the same way..i think its one of those things if u like it then u prolly never read the comics (or watching it as if you've never read them) if u hate the show then u prob did read them.
I am enjoying it so far..but like i said I never read the comics.
But highschool IS sleazy an unoriginal. But in real life there's less murder-intrigue and hot teachers to *beep* you in the back of a mini cooper.
