Question about cabin scene in first episode

In the first episode we see Phil and Lukas sharing a drink in the cabin. After Phil drinks, the camera focuses on Lukas wiping the bottle before drinking of it. Why the focus on the cleaning bit? It felt like the bottle was too nasty to drink of after Phil drank from it. I probably wouldn’t even wipe it clean if I shared a bottle with someone I have feelings for, so I didn’t understand the explicit focus on it. It keeps bothering me. Does anyone have a clue?

And now I think of it, another thing about the scene where Lukas punches Phil in school. Is one of the kids who are laughing Tommy? He was nice to Phil, borrowing his camera, why would he make fun of him when he talks to Lukas?

(I love the show and I'm totally shipping the boys)

I presume the scene is meant to show us Lukas' developing acceptance of his feelings towards Philip, because if you look at mutual drinking scenes they have in later episodes, Lukas no longer wipes the bottle that Philip passes to him before sipping from it.

I imagine Tommy's reaction is to show how truly complete Philip's isolation is at school. Even the one kid other than Lukas who's nice to him doesn't dare affiliate with him on school grounds, but rather goes with the flow of mocking Philip. And Tommy has nothing to hide when it comes to Philip. So to me it stresses that Lukas' paranoia about hanging out with Philip at school and what people will make of it is enhanced by their disparate social standings. If Tommy reacts like this, just imagine what's actually expected from popular kid Lukas...

My heart breaks for Phil that nobody is openly nice to him. He has such a pure heart.

I love the two characters together too. Hopefully we get a second season. Tell everyone you know and get the name of the show out there as much as you can. Usa doesn't seem to want to promote it. I guess most people are learning about it through tumblr and instagram.

If it helps, none of my friends are American, so their viewership doesn't count anyway. 

I'm glad I could be of service.  I also find it rather cute, but then there are so many things that I really love about Philip and Lukas together...

He does and he did not deserve any of the things he's had to endure in his life and during this series. I heart him so bad and I want a happy ending for him more than anything.

LOL I love that you're harassing your friends. I hope they do tune in!

Don't know how I'm gonna survive the upcoming week until the next episode. This is the first show in years to have this effect on me.

Thanx, you’re both nice.
I love Phil and Lukas together, we need a happy ending. And while we’re at it, we might need a second season with the boys.
Two of my friends watched the first episode, purely out of concern why I’m so overly invested, LOL. They we’re hooked right away. It’s spreading!!!
Waiting for the next episode is going to be hard! Me too, I can’t remember when a show affected me so much.
Jcgilbert2000, keep harassing you friends too! Force them, LOL.

And I agree with you completely - we need, and the boys deserve, a happy ending for them, preferably with a second season diving into them building an actual, proper relationship. I would probably give a kidney to get to see that.

I also don't know how to get trough the week. I'm on an endless rewatch, I think my neighbours (thin walls) think I'm on some sort of Groundhog day loop. :-S

LOL! I'm trying not to re-watch too much, I've mostly allowed myself just one re-watch of each episode (with just a few exceptions) so when it's all done I can do a binge watching of the whole season in one go. Which means I'm trying to distract myself with anything. It's not working as well as I've been hoping... I just can't concentrate on other stuff long enough for it to distract me.

That would be my thinking as well. He's just coming to terms with this and is still very unsure of himself and his feelings. At this point it's still pretty early on.

It's nice that they spent time on such a detail in the process of Lukas coming to term with his feelings. As Matanil wrote, later on in the series, he doesn't wipe the bottle anymore. :-)
