Ratings are in the toilet, even for a cable show. I guess the homosexual angle scared a lot of people away?
Anyway, the last three episodes seem to be airing on USA, Sundays at 11 PM. Not a good sign. Does not bode well for season two. We'll see. Stranger things have happened.

I guess the homosexual angle scared a lot of people away?
It might have, but that wouldn't be my first guess. It would be the moody atmosphere, I think a lot of people have a hard time watching a show with it. I felt like The Killing was excellent and I think it too suffered by re-creating the Scandinavian dark atmosphere of its origin, it was a success initially despite it but then the novelty aspect of this type of show wore off, especially after the case wasn't resolved within just one season, and I think that backfired and hurt the show. It still managed to somehow get 3 seasons, but it was never as successful as the first season. Then Eyewitness comes along, it's the same gloom and doom way of building an atmosphere, but this time there's no novelty to wear off because The Killing has already done this. And in addition, I think for a lot of people simply the memory of that show might have turned them off of this one. Because this show has actually been growing by numbers (not be enough, but it has), yet it may not be enough.
Is the airing time different? I just remember it was on Sunday evenings, so I don't see a difference...
I hope I'm wrong about the homosexual aversion. It's 2017 (almost) and I would hope that people in general have matured to the point where they don't feel sickened/horrified by depictions of a homosexual relationship. It's completely foreign to my own personal experience, but it's not going away, so I might as well accept it. But, I'll never go wrong underestimating the maturity, intelligence or taste of the American viewing audience. I've unpleasantly surprised too many times.
I also watched "The Killing", but was very turned off by that dour, lifeless, humorless character Linden (Helen's not quite as bad). And when the show's creator broke her promise to wrap up the story at the end of season one, I was completely done with the show.

I will be completely heart broken if they cancel it. I'm not ready to say goodbye.
I also stopped watching the killing when they broke their promise. They kept insisting they never promised we'd know the killer by the end of the season but they totally did. They marketed it as a miniseries and the second season would be a whole new mystery.
I'm not opposed to the homosexuality angle. I'm opposed to the moronic high school kids angle. I like dark, gritty detective/cop shows, and I like campy metaphorical high school drama shows, but I despise the two together.
I just want to strangle the two teens every time the are on screen. They could have solved this whole thing in the first episode if the stupid kids had just called the cops and described the killer. I don't mind stupid kids doing stupid stuff in a high school drama, but I want my gritty cop shows to be smart and intricately plotted, not driven by a couple of idiot high school kids constantly throwing a spanner in the works.
I wanted to watch this show, but the commercials seem to make it clear that the entire series would be over in one episode if the two gay kids just called the cops. That is a dumb show.
This is basically Law & Order Criminal Intent except that the smart cop is not on the show, and neither is Mike Logan, and all the town could get is Wheeler, the dumb gunt.
Well, then, you're missing out on a really good show.
And no, I don't believe this would have all been resolved if only the guys would have talked from the get go, though it probably would have made life easier for Helen, the sheriff. Who isn't dumb, but she certainly does face a few issues clouding her ability to crack the case.
Julianne Nicholson has all the personality of a dry wooden stump.
She is pretty, and interesting to watch on Law and Order, but she is strictly a sidekick, and never originated any ideas or conversation. I cannot imagine her as the lead on a show. I am bored just watching the commercials.
I accidentally bought the season pass of this on iTunes. Ended up binging it the other day after there were 7 eps ready to watch.
I would have stopped watching way before ep. 7 if it weren't for the season pass.
If I were watching this week by week, I would have stopped watching because of the character Lukas. Not because he's gay, but because he's very annoying. The way he's so stupid and paronoid that everyone will think he's gay for even being in the same room as Philip. And why couldn't they just tell the cops that they were just drinking or looking over the video Philip took? and just leave the part with them all over each other out?
Also, can't stand Helen. Every time she has a scene with Philip or mentions Philip, I'm always thinking why the hell did she even want a foster kid in the first place? She doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with him.
Lukas and Philip are the main reason why I had to stop watching week-to-week. I couldn't care less about the sexuality part of their relationship, I just hate those two. Lukas is one of the most annoying characters on television. I committed to watching the final episode, just because I don't really care anymore what happens before the wrap-up. But I didn't mind the mood and tone of the series... I just couldn't handle anymore of the crap melodrama.
Helen didn't necessarily want Phil. She wanted Gabe, presumably, and Gabe wanted Phil. So, Helen's a reluctant foster mother.
I don't understand what Gabe sees in her TBH.

Same here. I can't stand Lukas. The guy's a terrible actor. The character is dumb and annoying. I've never understood why they think that everyone will know they're gay if they hang out as friends. Whoever decided to dye his hair blonde needs to be fired. He's ruined the whole show for me.
Yep. I checked again, and it's back to its 10 PM slot. Weird. Maybe it will hang around for a while.

Unless the producers create a "spin off" of sorts, there is no season two. It is a mini-series consisting of just 10 episodes. The tenth episode is also the concluding episode.
Could it be sort of like American crime were the same actors return in different roles? Like in the next season the actress who plays Helen could be the antagonist.
They set up a skype chat for the person with the most creative way to get the word out on twitter and they also put out a call for each person who was watching to get just one other person to watch. Then there's the whole underwear thing.
Yes, lol. They've got enough female fans that I think ratings will keep rising Obsessed girls are a force to be reckoned with, lol. Add in the nakedness factor and how social james is, there's a big chance if ratings is all the bigwigs want.
Obsessed girls are a force to be reckoned with, lol
Amen to that.
I imagine that just as important as the overall ratings are, so are the ones for the 18-34 demographics. From what I understand those are up as well, so here's hoping...!
My heart is breaking. I don't know that I've ever been this upset over a tv show not being renewed. Granted, we don't know for sure but the numbers don't look likely.

Anthology series. Same actors playing different characters. Could be interesting if it survives.

Did you watch AHS? A lot of the actors were retained season to season.

I agree it doesn't seem likely, but I think overall, the show has performed in ways that can be best described as "mixed", leaving enough room for the network to decide it's willing to give it a chance. Weirder things have happened.
That said, what you mentioned about twitter makes me think that the outdated Nielsen method of measuring ratings is probably not working in favor of the show. I have a feeling it has a much bigger following than the official ratings show.
Exactly my point. I hope the USA network realizes that and fins a way to utilize it in order to keep the showing going. Seems like we'll find out towards the end of January. Don't think I'll be holding my breath, because I don't wanna be too heart-broken in case they decide against it.
And apparently, there is a chance Lukas and Philip will be back! [grin]
It's a good thing I'll be working my @ss off next week, it'll keep me distracted. Also, I'm gonna watch the original Norwegian version. Also planning on binge watching the entire season. All of that together should help me somehow survive till the end of January.
Lol, I'm going to rewatch also. James was reminded of his promise and has agreed to take the pictures he said he would. So if you're interested, watch for those. I just think it's funny that he's actually going to do it. He doesn't have to honor it because the ratings didn't go up that specific week.
He doesn't have to honor it, but I guess it's smarter (and kinder to the fans) to do it. I'm gonna trust that the internet will somehow bring the pics to me since I'm so bad with social media...
