The Exorcist vs Outcast

I enjoyed the pilot and think this will be better than Outcast

8/10 so far

Two different premises.

Outcast isn't about demonic possession. We still don't know the source of the possessions in that show, but we know they aren't 'demons'. They are extra-dimensional creatures of some sort. They also aren't 'evil' per se. Their 'demonic' behavior is result of short-term disorientation from the jump between dimensions. Once they have acclimated to their new environment, they settle in and become part of the community.

Outcast appears to be shaping up as an alien invasion story (hence 'the merge') rather than a religious themed possession story.

Uhm no, the show or the graphic novels haven't even explained what they are up to this point. Pure speculation. But they aren't really demons either that's correct.

This will be the only comment or reply you'll get. Like I give a sh!t about YOUR interwebz opinion.

A brilliant analysis! And I'm not just saying that because it nicely encapsulates my own conclusions.

(I'm saying it because natural justice suggests IMDB will take me off the naughty stool for being mean to jackasses if I say some nice things to people who deserve nice things. Swear to God, I reprimanded some 18-yr-old dimwit years ago for her deranged attacks on people and now she reports for being meeeeee-an to her.)

Outcast ended up being a disappointment for me. The first episode was kind of creepy, with the girl he "exorcised" (even though it borrowed heavily from the original Exorcist movie). Then the rest of the season was anticlimactic in comparison. Didn't really like the "twist" on that show.

I don't know, I think I've become too jaded these days. Nothing really scares me any more. The first episode of this show was no exception. Maybe it's because there have been so many exorcism scenes in TV shows and movies, there really isn't anything "new" to be done?

Chthonic gods have set their sights on making me a slave to their ways.

OUTCAST had an excellent first ep but no other eps since has been anywhere near as good as the pilot ep. in fact there were only about 4 eps out of 10 eps that were genuinely good and moved the plot along. the season felt like it was aimless/meandering for most of it. there's potential in OUTCAST but i don't know if it will ever get to what it could be.

EXORCIST's firt ep was very good (OUTCAST's first ep was better) and i think it will end up being (season to season) much better than OUTCAST season 1.

I went off it as soon as Phillip Glenster stopped acting the preacher and started acting Philip Glenster. I was hoping this would be a breakout role for him.

Exorcist by a wide margin.

I like Outcast but will definitely prefer Exorcist. I find Father Tomas very hot too which also helps!!

I'm so glad that you started this thread. So many people compared Outcast to Preacher which was like apples and oranges.

Comparing the Exorcist to Outcast is more appropriate IMO. I'm actually finding the Exorcist to be better and I did like Outcast but at times it dragged and didn't go anywhere. I also love Father Marcus' character and Ben Daniels is crushing this character!! He is amazing!! I really like how they reveal his history and explain how it shaped him into who he is today. I find the storylines interesting, great cast, creepy, entertaining. There are many characters that illicit compassion on this show which is not always the case.

I can't believe this is on FOX!!
