"Based on William Blatty's novel"

Just watched the trailer for this and I'm frankly confused. If they based this off of the novel, it was done extremely loosely. The 1973 film is very, very close to the source novel. This looks more like your run-of-the-mill possession horror with priest v. possessed girl (a trend the '73 film started), which is a major disappointment.

I'll give it a shot when it comes out, but the trailer didn't make much of an impression, and the "based on William Blatty's novel" claim is a bit misleading.

They were at ComicCon and said it's not a remake but a new story in the same universe and that they acknowledge that the events in Blatty's story actually happened, but that's about it.
Misleading bait promos.

There were some nods to the novel. The weird priest at the retreat was one. And oddly enough, the lack of profane language by the demon struck me as another. The show is on network TV so that's mostly why there's a lack of profanity but the demon in the novel was pretty well spoken. Except for the crucifix scene and the "your mother sucks c@cks in hell" parts, of course.😂

They have to give recognition to Blatty out of respect, since he started it all.

Everyone knows that only small parts of this new story borrow from the original story.

I see it more as a thank you to Blatty.

There would be no reason to tell the exact same story.

It's inspired by, not based on.

Honouring the source material.......is what that is about. Its nothing new and considering you are on a movie message board why don't you understand this very simple thing?

Do you think STAN LEE has any real involvement in ANY marvel movies?
lol
