The show got silly at the end

its becoming more and more like supernatural with older men. instead of keeping it horror with exorcism. too much supernatural stuff making guys fly and stuff. not a fan. if season 2 happens they need to go back to the roots.
showing a slow possession building up to it teasing it a bit.

anyways the show started off well and got super corny at the end.

I'm not sure that an entire season based on one exorcism was enough to keep me interested, I don't know how others feel. Opening it up a bit with the demon cults etc basically kept my interest after the early episodes(with all the exorcism stuff) started to get repetitive.

reply

what do you mean by too much supernatural stuff?

demons have always been able to levitate and throw people around with their minds in basically every exorcism movie.

I think he means Supernatural the tv show.

Oh ok my mistake

I think he means Supernatural the tv show.

I think so too. It was remiscent of it, I agree. But I still enjoyed, I'm a fan of both shows though.

I actually got the same vibe with the finale. I hope, if a second season comes, they get back on the original track.

reply

Well the movies ended up silly by the third one I think.

reply

I agree. How many times did they kill someone or threaten to kill someone by turning their head all the way around? It was getting pretty laughable. Especially since they kept stating in the teasers something like "This is what you were waiting for! Lots of heads spinning around!" Well, I was hoping for a better story, NOT a bunch of heads spinning around.

They did that in the original, time to find something else to happen!

reply

Um, off the top of my head I can only remember two heads spins. The little boy in the beginning who died from it and Casey when the demon tried to kill her in front of Angela to get Angela to offer herself to the demon to save Casey. Don't remember anymore than that in the series so I wouldn't call two times in a 10 episode season excessive.

reply

Didn't Regan kill her mom by turning her head around and breaking her neck? That's at least three. So not a ton, but they kept bringing it up in teaser trailers as well. Just seemed like an overdone trope to me. And as the OP stated, "silly."

I think the way they killed Chris was supposed to be a homage to the way Burke Dennings was killed in the movie except this time we actually got to see it whereas in the movie it was just explained to us. I never saw the teasers so I don't know about that except to say that maybe they kept teasing it because the head turning scene in the movie is an iconic scene. I didn't see the movie for the first time until 3 weeks ago but I have known about the head turning scene, the pea soup scene and what possessed Regan looked like since I was a kid because those things are so iconic. When I saw a picture or clip of demonic Regan during a video montage or something I knew it was The Exorcist even though I had never seen the movie.

reply

Interesting take on the Chris and Burke killings. Never thought of that.

reply

Yeah, the only thing really different from the way we saw Chris die and the way Burke's death was described was that Burke fell out of a window before falling down the stairs.

reply

I agree. It needed better writing; some original ideas to give it a new spin.

reply

Yeah, it got ridiculous to be honest.
I enjoyed the show, I just wished it wasn't so corny and was actually scary.
It is too different from the film that it was hard for me to accept that it's apart of the same universe.
The demon voice was awful.
