Jon Bernthal's character escalated the situation

One thing that stood out to me through out that whole scene was how everyone was just laughing and having fun, and Bernthal, while understandably angry, literally kicked the guy. That's no way to treat someone who is basically your brother and has just had a few too many drinks. The situation seemed like it would've died down if Bernthal would've just calmed down instead of trying to be a hothead and boss the others around (ordering the others to "get him out of here"). Not condoning rape or anything, but the entire situation just seemed unrealistic. If they'd really had planned on raping the girl, they would've just gone for it right away instead of just playing around with Bernthal. The rape and the murder was done more out of anger towards how they were being treated then anything else, not that it justifies it or anything.

You are justifying it...

I'd absolutely treat someone that way who drunkenly stumbles in and starts harassing your girlfriend and pulls the blanket off her knowing shes half naked, after being told repeatedly to stop. Are you fucking stupid? He was actually being a good boyfriend.

You've got to be kidding...
Things were already out of control when they barged in behaving the way they were behaving..He was just doing the best he could to fight off the inevitable.
It was plain those guys were capable of just what they did..killing him and her too (in one way or another) after the gang rape..
...a lot more than just having a few too many.

Yeah no victim blaming please.

Dude, this is the worst take. How beta do you have to be? FFS.

IMO, Bernthal gave him more chances than I would've given - I think he asked his friend 3 freaking times!

Also, the fact he was asking the other guy to pull the drunken guy away didn't seem like he was that close to the drunken guy anyway. If it was his best friend, he would've been talking directly to him. Do you even socialize?

then your a straight up bitch if you would get violent with someone whos just having fun and trying to keep things light hearted. Sure if this was under normal circumstances, I can get attacking him, but these guys are out in the middle of nowhere and isolated. No reason to jump the gun and start kicking the guy, especially someone who basically like your brother out there. Also, when someones bugging you, you're supposed to address HIM, not some other guy like he's your stooge and is obligated to "get him out of here". He chose to disrespect them rather than exchanging words like a real man, and escalated it. Simple as that.

lmao, that is literally what a beta would say.

part of being a man is using your gut to know what type of people in certain situations would escalate things to get out of control, and stamp that fire out before it jumps from the kindling to the log.

Moron! Disrespect? That repulsive drunkard wasn't disrespecting by harrassing the girl? The boyfriend was betrayed by his own friends is what happened. He should've shot the bastard, not simply kicked him in his ass!
