Oil workers (Spoilers)

SPOILERS BELOW:

Good movie. One thing I couldn't work out; when the cops and the FBI agent were at the drilling site why the ridiculous standoff between the cops and private security?

It seemed needless. Like what did the private security hope to gain from that encounter? Kill everyone and hide the bodies and hope nobody finds out? Seems a bit far fetched to me.

Oops sorry, fixed.

I agree it was far-fetched but I guess their plan was to kill the cops and dump them. The private saw the oil workers surround them and he pulled out his gun, leading to the stand-off.

I am no help here. I didn't see this gaping plot hole until you pointed it out. I've been scratching my brain trying to explain it but cannot.

They didn't even try to keep the cops from checking things out. Their plan to kill the cops would've drawn infinitely more attention on them.

Two of the guys showed signs of having been in a fight. The guy in the trailer had a lot more evidence of the fight on his face. Since the boyfriend had been beaten to death, they knew they were caught, especially after the one said something about knowing that it was Natalie that had been found dead, when her name had not been released. The rape kit DNA would have clinched the matter. Unless they wanted to go to prison, they had to subdue the cops and escape, or else kill the cops and hide their bodies and their vehicles, which would have been harder.

This isn't far-fetched at all. You guys are using civilized logic.

They'd already gone over that edge with Natalie and Matt, out-of-control beating the shìt out of him, then group raping her (until Matt came to again). She ran, but who do you think put Matt in the woods to be eaten by wildlife?

Clearly lacking in anything resembling morality and not the sharpest tools in the shed, they seemed ready and even prepared to keep at it when others came a snooping.

It seems weird that you call the standoff ridiculous and needless, but not mention the foreman warning the guy inside the trailer than the FBI agent was standing in front of the door (plan B since one of the cops clued into the earlier standoff-flank maneuvering).

Cops getting ambushed is nothing new. Moron guys doing things like this without thinking of consequence is nothing new.
