"Let's go stir the dead guy's family up!"

Rodie and Aubrey have to rush to Cochise's family and tell them a body has been found in a barrel. They have no clue if it is him or not. Is there some rule that they can't wait until they know for sure if it is their relative in the barrel? Now it's possible that they are going to have to drive back, all sad and emotional, and tell the poor people that it wasn't him, after stirring up painful memories.
