Very silly. Spoiler

So we are asked to believe that a highly intelligent woman would inexplicably and illogically go into a cupboard for a bit of bonking with a man who has sadly lost his looks since his 'Game On' days just because hubby MIGHT be having an affair and then not report a violent rape simply because hubby, whom she thinks is two-timing her, would be cross with her for doing the same. Gary is portrayed as sympathetic and, although not exactly jumping for joy to discover his wife's indiscretion, would surely be angrier with the rapist than with Yvonne. I agree with Gavin Heisenberg that she should have to the police. The opening scene also telegraphs far too obviously that things will turn out badly for Yvonne and, unless there is some sort of plot twist, as there may well be,(I have not read the source novel) is a spoiler in itself in telling us how the story will end.

Even the most academically intelligent person can make stupid decisions they later regret, you know. It doesn't matter that you don't think 'Stranger' is hot - she does. Regarding the police, she knows that, if it got to court, the defence team would rip her apart about her behaviour that evening. Also, if she'd gone to the police soon after the rape and been physically examined, the semen from 'stranger' would be found. It was all explained last night, from what I recall.

Some parts of her behaviour are odd but as for Ben Chaplin losing his looks - no he still looks very handsome to me :).

Having an affair is not a crime but being raped is. I still hold that the depiction of Gary would make him sympathetic to his wife but then, if she went to the police there would be no story - as Alfred Hitchcock famously pointed out.

Maybe she suspects that Gary finding out about her behaviour on the evening of the rape and shortly afterwards would make him doubt her? It's also possible he'd find out about 'stranger'.

She tells Mr X (Mark) when she meets him after the rape that apart from the fact she doesn't believe rape victims are shown empathy in court, she didn't want his DNA showing up on the swab.
I thought this was because she believed his story that he was an important person with an important role in parliament and wanted to protect him. Remember she texted him 007.

Yes, she'd need to come clean to the police and her husband that she'd had consensual sex with another person before the rape, but I don't think that was what really was on her mind.. It would be the shame and also Mr X being brought into the picture.

But for George to "know" what she was doing... I think he was probably stalking her before the rape as well as after... Sicko!
