I couldn't stand McKenna. She didn't have one scene that I thought she was even sort of friendly in. She should have stayed out of it. She started it off by writing in to an advice column for what I'm guessing was an extremely new relationship. She immediately followed the "advice" without even really talking to him about it. She pretty much told Brendan it was her way or no way at dinner. She insisted that he cave on his beliefs of the holiday for her own...she didn't care about how he felt about it. If he had to work or was on call, why does she need it to be celebrated on that certain day or not at all? She couldn't compromise and get together the day before or the day after? And why is it her place to tell Avery who Brendan really was? He was going to tell her himself at dinner that night.
As for Brendan, I actually kind of liked him. He seemed like a genuine person to me. The only reason he even started to respond to the column was because his girlfriend followed the advice from a stranger after a 5 sentence letter. He was completely blindsided. And as I mentioned before, he was going to tell Avery the truth, but again, his incredibly bitter and jealous ex-gf (who dumped him, remember) felt it was her responsibility.
Now Avery, I liked her as well, but I thought she over-reacted about the whole thing. As an advice columnist she has to realize that not everyone is going to agree with her advice, or does she think her word is gold? Was he the really only person who ever responded to her column not agreeing with her?
