Actress playing Karen, OTT

I know Karens an evil cow and clearly a thicko but despite LOOKING the part the actresses performance as her was laughably OTT. She probably thought THIS IS MY BIG BREAK and went overboard in trying to get noticed. I couldnt stop laughing at her DUHHH AM A WURKING CLASS THICKO, retard performance, almost as condescending as some of the other actors who clearly thought IM PORTRAYING LOWLIFE so just relied on sluching, lolling around and acting apelike to portray that social group. Unintentionally one of the funniest dramas of 2017 so far.

Blimey, just checked bio of actress playing Karen, shes an experienced performer. Would never have guessed.

yep, and her portrayal of Matthews is very good indeed, having seen plenty of the real Matthews whilst this went on originally.

i'm tired of dancing here all by myself

I can't speak for anyone else on here but I am talking about how she acted in the media. Meaning mannerisms etc...I also think it was a decent portrayal.

But she was playing low life scum. She's an excellent actress and was particularly good in tbe game of thrones

I thought exactly the same thing. She was portrayed as someone with severe learning disabilities and all her mannerisms massively exaggerated. It really put me off.

I thought she did a very good job. So similar to the real Karen Matthews in the media

Similar to Karen Matthews in looks but maybe a bit too thin. Matthews defining features were her monobrowed troglodyte face and the nasty dark discolouration under her eyes. She couldn't look more like gutter trash scum if she tried and they have worked on the look for the actress playing her.

I thought she was really good, I assume the real mother was how she is portrayed.

So far I thought the first episode was really good and better than I was expecting.

Only criticism was Sheridan Smith I thought she was miscasted a bit in this.

Maybe too well known for the part. Instead of being realistic, you knew it was Sheridan Smith

It looks like Sheridan had to beef up for this role. She looked really bloated here.
