One of the interesting things about Tyler Perry Madea character is the fact she preaches about Christianity and God yet here is a black man in a dress. Now think about it, homophobia is a problem in the African American community. Yet Church going black folks got no problem laughing and joking about Madea yet hate gay men. Seems a bit hypocritical to me. Madea is a drag character Tyler Perry created which made him famous. Not sure people know Tyler Perry used to hang out at a gay bar in Atlanta called TRAXX. There was a black drag queen Ms. Sophia who Perry many claim COPIED for his Madea alter ego. This was back in the 1990s.

What the hell does cross-dressing have to do with homosexuality? BTW, Tyler is gay.

Cross dressing was popular in gay bars years ago. Apparently there is hostility between cross-dressers and transsexuals today, blame Social Justice Nazis!

Pointless thread. Full of conjecture, unnecessary innuendo, false claims and utterly irrelevant to the board overall. Furthermore, Madea is not "drag character." Perry gets into drag to bring this character to life. However, in the fictional universe this character exists in, Madea is purported as a women - not a man in drag. Just hush.

Zpex this is NOT TRUE, Tyler Perry well known in Atlanta gay scene and YES Tyler Perry is indeed gay. If you think Tyler Perry is straight then you are REALLY IGNORANT. Perry is gay gay gay! Tyler used to hang out at a gay bar TRAXX In Atlanta he copied a black drag queen Ms. Sophia and copied her routine. Anyone who thinks Tyler Perry is straight is either stupid or someone in denial LOL!

Maybe the hate is over blown. Black gay men hate themselves thus this down low phenomenon and blaming their reasons for being in the closet on black women, I'm looking at you Don Lemon. If blacks hate drag so much, why was Flip Wilson's Josephine such a popular character? Why were drag balls originated within Harlem's black community? Why did predominately black Washington DC and Maryland vote for gay marriage? White gays were downright racist towards blacks for supposedly voting down gay marriage in California but not a peep about Latinos. Then those same hypocrites have the nerve to be racist against gay people of color then wonder why they can't get any love.
