So....Hunter's involuntary, teenage erection is his fault?

I get the core issue was Hunter lied but...it came off as if Yael was ALSO upset about the boner. As if he cheated "physiologically."

But, guys can't always control that. ESPECIALLY in high school. And yes, we get indication that he found Lola attractive but, once again, teenage boy. Especially in Degrassi of all places, where everyone is attracted to everyone else based on today's plot.

Was it just me who got the impression Yael was mad about him having Lola boners?

It did come across that way, especially when she was taking with Frankie when she was pretending to be Hunter. I'm not a fan of Yael at all.

Really? How come? I didn't think that ANYONE could find her unlikable.

reply

I can't really describe it. She just doesn't appeal to me. Oh, and I hate her wig, but that's more a physical thing and it's more her personality that rubs me the wrong way.

reply

I can see what you mean about her personality. And yes, her wig is a hot mess.

I grew up with Emma and Manny's generation. As such, I identify the best with them. I recall when Spinner got a boner in class and the message revolving around how it was just a part of growing up. As teens, we can't control that and it's perfectly fine. And just about anything can cause them 'cause...well, hormones don't discriminate. Spinner boner storyline was handled the same as Shay's period storyline. It's a part of our bodies we shouldn't be ashamed of.

But the way THIS was handled felt like it was for "OMG, Hunter cheating?!?" purposes. Um....no. Involuntary boners are NOT a form of cheating. Hunter had no emotional and no physical relationship with Lola on that level. A person rubbed his pants and the expected outcome happened. The only concern is how Hunter tried to get rid of Lola because of HIS boner and Yael's feelings. Lola was an innocent bystander who honestly wanted to let the situation slide. But, the boys deemed her "a threat to Hunter and Yael" so they tossed her away without much discussion. I know we're suppose to believe the Gamer Club ISN'T misogynistic but....that was pretty misogynist. She's more than just a make-up vlod. SHE'S THE GIRL WHO SAVED THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL!!

But, based on Yael's reaction, I don't blame them!! Yael says she wants to be "just one of the guys" and yet puts Hunter on a break for something a guy can't control. She stopped making the lie an issue and instead focused on the boner as if it represented Hunter cheating. I commend her for not being one of THOSE girls who blame the innocent bystander but the way she held it over Hunter's head came off as unreasonable.

I'm personally trying to like Yael as a character but she's just too much. Her hypocrisy makes me appreciate Esme of all people. At least when she's horrible, she's up front about it.

I know what you mean. I actually liked Arlene A LOT better.

I thought that Yael was upset, not cause of the boner, but because Hunter was shutting her out. They used to be friends, but since she became his girlfriend, he has started keeping secrets. He told the guys about the boner, but not her. She felt excluded.

reply

Yeah, that's how I understood it too. She wants Hunter to talk to him just the way he used to talk her before they started dating. I can see why it was more comfortable talking to the guys about his boner though. He was embarrassed and he knew the guys would understand. I thought about the episode with Spinner having his boners and I was thinking Hunter should get himself a binder boner shield, lol.

I am not a huge fan of Yael either and even though I understand what she was upset, it's not a big deal for guys to want to tell their male friends things they wouldn't tell their girlfriends. I felt more for Hunter than I did Yael in this episode.

Yes, that was exactly the reason. But what Yael needs to realize is that there are certain things that you just don't tell your girlfriend and "Baby, I got a boner for another girl" is one of them. It goes the same for her. I'm pretty sure if she had a "wet moment" for someone else, she wouldn't tell Hunter. He wouldn't want to know anyway! There's a certain guy and girl code! Just sayin'!

I never thought it was so much that Hunter got a boner that was wrong, but the fact that he lied about it by trying to get Lola out of the club by making it look like she *beep* up when she didn't. Instead he should have just told Yael what happened because it was the lying about it that made it a big deal.

Also I think a lot of it is do to Yael being insecure? We got a jist of that in #IWokeUpLikeThis, when she didn't know why she couldn't be just seen as good enough without the make up, and when Hunter insisted to go help with Lola so he could gawk at her cause she was hot.

So Hunter getting a boner wasn't wrong but lying and trying to get Lola kicked out of the club for it plus Lola's insecurities were all tied in.

I couldn't agree more! it was also really grimy of them to try to get rid of Lola for something that wasn't her fault or Hunter's for that matter. Yael figured it out anyway. By trying to cover it up he made it way more serious than it should've been.

When saw how Hunter was looking at her, I was like "Wait, is HE gonna get her pregnant?!" I honestly wouldn't mind if they got together.

reply

The way that I saw it was that she was insecure *because* he lied about it. If he had been up front about it, I think she wouldn't have made a big deal about it. But I feel like she thinks that maybe he really is attracted to Lola and that's why he went so far to lie and cover up the whole thing. Which, truthfully, I can completely understand that reaction. Especially coming from an individual who is quite insecure (and it's obvious that she is).
