I like the series, too...each episode reminds me a little of Jane Austen's novels in terms of the some of the characters and plots. For example, Hannah's mother conjures up Emma and her over-the-top neurotic Romanticism. There is a Pride and Prejudice sexual tension thing going on between Mike and Hannah. Mike is also haunted somewhat by a previous relationship, just as is Edward Ferrer in Sense and Sensibility. And Hannah's mother reminds me of the ditzy Mrs. Bennett in P&P and her inability to completely accept her daughter as-is. I also like the way Hannah and Andrea are close, as are Elizabeth and Jane in P&P. It's a kind of survival mechanism against their mother's pushiness. And Hannah's involvement in murder and mystery tracks with the morbid curiosity of Catherine, the heroine in Northanger Abbey.
Just some thoughts for any JA fans out there...!

That's so funny. I love Jane Austen's work yet never made the connection between characters from this series. More Murder She Wrote from the Corner Bakery. Very perceptive of you. Hope they continue with all the new detective series . . . especially Baked, my fav among the new crop of lady detectives.

This weekend Hallmark rebroadcasted Unleashing Mr. Darcy. Very anemic romance VERY loosely based on P&P. Cute idea gone very wrong. No chemistry between the lead characters. Too bad.

Glad you liked the Austen connection...obviously, I am a big fan, too. I like the "Baked..." series best amongst the new crop of crime-solvers. There is just something authentic about the actress and her character. I did not see the Austen updated version of Pride and Prejudice. From the few snippets I saw from the trailers, I could see it had all the makings of a very poorly rendered version of the original. And I also picked up on the no-chemistry issue...no thanks. Hallmark should put the Darcy program in the vault. Then have it cleaned and burned.

I like the series too. I think what I like about this and the Lori Loughlin/Candace Cameron Bure shows is the fact that the clothing (esp. CCB's series) and decor are just so gorgeous.

Examples:

On Baked - the way the the Bakery and Hannah's apartment are decorated. I love the cookie cars around the counter. If anyone knows the brand please let me know. It kinda looks like Anthropologie.

On Aurora Teagarden - the way they dress CCB is so cute. Great cardigans and jewelry pieces.
