Great story, but its bad ending ruined the entire film

Its ending was so bad and simple

reply

I'm curious, what do you think the ending should have been?

reply

it was fine. Just one plothole. Why neither of them checked what year theyre in. Also she seems to be a lesb or bi at the very least. Maybe not. And what is the main message of this movie.. dont think its for people outside of asia.. asia has family problems. Less people are interested in forming relationships.. whether its because of lack of stability or because you have 20 elderly to take care of since that 1 child per family ruined everything. Can anyone from asia elaborate?
All i know is the surface of the problems.

So the message is go ask a random stranger their name and see where that leads to?

Nonetheless i really enjoyed it. Beautiful animation. Oh and the breast fondling... yep now i have a question.. do girls fondle them non stop or do they take them for granted and do nothing with them. legit question.

reply

why would you ever think to check what year you are in? There was nothing to indicate to either of them that they were in a different year, and for the most part they live such simplistic live that there is absolutely nothing to make them think to.

reply

Asia has fmaily problems, Europe has fmaily problems, Americas have family problems. Not sure what your point is here???

Neither of them checked where they were because they kept on forgetting the dream. And 5 years later the whole thing just seemed like a distant dream. Like when you wake up and remember something but you don't know what it is and it escapes you.
They felt each other's presence, but they kept on forgetting each other and they did not know how to fill the emptiness.

In the beginning there was nothing, and it exploded.

reply

Do you fondle your dick nonstop or do you take it for granted? Obvious answer.

reply

maybe, but hopefully there'll be a sequel to this film soon. And probably this is the sad reason why Your Name didn't make it to the Oscars this year & instead gave it to Hayao Miyazaki's The Red Turtle. 😢

Once again, Hayao Miyazaki wasn't even involved in the Red Turtle.

Miyazaki had nothing to do with The Red Turtle. Just because Studio Ghibli is involved with a film, doesn't automatically make it a Miyazaki film. This is IMDb, all you have to do is look at the film's page to see that the film is written and directed by an entirely different person.

Miyazaki really only directed about half of all Ghibli films, so I just don't understand why everybody automatically assumes Ghibli = Miyazaki.

Sorry, I know this is a huge overreaction to your simple mistake, but it's literally my biggest film-related pet peeve, because I hate to see amazing filmmakers like Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) consistently have their work credited to Miyazaki. Takahata actually served as the artistic producer for The Red Turtle, while Miyazaki had literally no involvement.

Takahata, Miyazaki.. both are founders of Studio Ghibli...

So? What he's saying is that too many people automatically only equate Studio Ghibli with Miyazaki. And yes, that gets really *beep* annoying after a while, especially in this case where Miyazaki wasn't even involved in the Red Turtle when Isao Takahata was.

Takahata was involved in 'The Red Turtle'? How do you know this? Was he a producer or something?

reply

Yes, he's credited as producer/artistic producer.

So Ghibli's involvement with 'The Red Turtle' was a lot bigger than a lot of people thought...

reply

Well I don't know what other people thought the extent of studio ghibli's involvement were, but out of the 11 producers of the Red Turtle, only two of them are from ghibli.
