How in the world did they get all those Directors to interview?

I am shocked that the filmmakers were able to convince all of those directors and other CIA operatives to go on camera and answer questions, some quite sensitive.

I think the answer is summed up pretty well in this opening comment of a review:

"The most stunning aspect of “The Spymasters: CIA in the Crosshairs,” Showtime’s new documentary about the agency, is how the 12 living directors of the world’s most covert organization disagree so much. They reflect what’s clearly an existential battle for the soul of America’s intelligence-gathering agency."

If you feel strongly about an issue (wether it be pro or con), when you're approached and asked to give your opinion, and you learn that all the rest of them are doing it, you'd be crazy to stand mute to let the others (who you might not agree with) do all of the talking for you!

Now this is transparency.

I think they also got tired of being blamed for false information when it came to the war in Iraq. I also think many of them wanted to show how much red tape they have to deal with so people would stop the, "Why isn't the FBI doing something ?", every time there's an incident. I know I'd be pissed.
