A question for people from Britain

I enjoyed this show. It was funny and the storylines were pretty intriguing, although nothing original.

The only "qualm" I have about it is that I figured the disused hospital and the guardian program would be more prominent. Anyways, my question is do these programs actually exist?

Not from the UK but they do indeed exist. They also exist in some form here in the US as co-ops.

While tenants in co-ops are usually protected because they actually own the property as an autonomous entity, "guardianship" seems dodgy at best. Basically, instead of a corporation or local govt buying a building and selling pieces of it to bunch of different people, like a co-op does, property guardians are employees of the property owner and seem to be glorified squatters.

A company or person has a giant vacant building that has no sale in sight for the foreseeable future. A second company will then agree to take on regular maintenance and upkeep for an indeterminate amount of time. They then "hire" guardians to keep up the place by way of offering them cheap rent on a large commercial or residential property.

This sounds great, except the building is still up for sale and guardians are technically employees and not legally protected tenants, so either company can evict them at anytime.

Yes they do have it here. I doubt the amenities are as cool or fun as the hospital depicted in this though!

It's too cerebral! We're trying to make a movie here, not a film!
