Liked it more than I expected.

As someone old enough to hate internet culture and the so-called breakout stars of YouTube, I found this a very funny (and deservedly so) on-point parody of internet fads and the transient nature of celebrity. Although I'm very conflicted that Shane Dawson is in this basically lampooning himself. And apparently the director also started out making online videos, so I guess it all comes full circle.

I thought all the actors (and their respective characters) were great at skewering their targets, and I even managed to feel genuinely bad for the "Wobbly Walk" girl. I had to look up Wendy McColm after this because she was so good in it.

I just watched it on Netflix as I didn't really have much else to do. I had very low expectations beforehand but it actually turned out to be not that bad.

I mean yeah it's not a particularly great (or even good) film; the character development was non-existent, the writing was kind of all over the place and, bar the odd chuckle, wasn't really that funny (not to mention some not-so-subtle sexism). Another problem with this film was that it could have been edgier with its satire but instead decided to play it fairly safe (no doubt due to the PG-13/12A rating which was already being pushed to its limit). On the plus side, the acting was surprisingly decent for this kind of film, not that I was expecting award-worthy stuff or anything. Even Shane Dawson's performance wasn't bad. And there were some amusing moments scattered throughout (it also helped that it was just under 90 minutes long).

I personally wouldn't watch it again anytime soon (if at all) but it's definitely not as horrific as you might be expecting it to be.
