Minor quibbles

Does anyone else think that the audio controllers had some difficulties here and there? the feed from some of the mics seemed too low. Julian Ovenden's feed wasn't loud enough in several places, nor was Mother Abbess's.

Why didn't they give Ovenden a guitar strap so he wouldn't have to sit during "Edelweiss"? It was a little odd, watching him sitting there, singing. I thought that drained some of the emotional impact from the scene. (Although I much prefer him sitting to the awful foot-on-chair choice in the Underwood version. That was off-putting. It was too Johnny Cash.)

I suppose my biggest quibble though is Tointon's hair. Why was it so unattractive? It could have still been simple, and nun-like, if they had styled it a little more neatly. I'm glad they didn't go with the Dutch milk-maid plaiting that Underwood wore, which I suppose is actually very accurate to the real Maria von Trapp. Her hair did look much better after the honeymoon, but the transformation was a little too much, too obvious. I realize they probably hid her battery pack in her hair, for her mic, but still! 😀

My quibble is relating to sound too - during the scene where Max and Elsa (and Georg, but only for a short time) are chatting before How Can Love Survive, we're meant to hear the Laendlr music playing gently. The scene just felt empty without it :D

I'm interested as to why you think the Laendler music should be heard there. I don't recall that music playing at that point in productions of the show I've seen, and there's no ball going on at that moment, as there is later in the story, when they all dance to it. I'm not arguing with you, just wondering where the idea came from (perhaps you worked on this production, and knew that they did have it there, but messed up the volume levels?).

Just make a movie that makes me care, one way or another. I'm open.

I've not worked on this production, but I worked behind the scenes on a few theatre shows including Sound of Music, and the Laendlr music just plays in the background. They did it on the one I worked on, and the 2013 Carrie Underwood version.
