Everyone needs to watch this

I was really moved by this. Well done documentary. I loved being able to see him through the eyes of his family who had never before really thought of him as a hero, but more as a kind of fun and passionate, yet somewhat irresponsible older brother. It's interesting that they never really saw him as the man he had become until after his death. I like that the documentary wasn't overly sappy; it wasn't trying to tell you what to think. Yet just by presenting the straightforward accounts of his fellow photojournalists, fellow hostages, and friends and family you came to understand just how exceptionally compassionate and driven this man was. I'm so glad I got to learn more about him rather than just remembering him from the ISIS video. This was a much needed film and I'm glad it was so well done. One thing I was left wondering about at the end of the film, however, is why exactly the other hostages were released but not James Foley. What, exactly, did their governments provide to the terrorists that the US government did not provide.

As I understand it, Jilixi, the US government has a long-standing policy of neither negotiating with, nor paying ransom money to, captors. I am not clear on other countries' policies in this area, but I assume that they paid the ransom amounts that were demanded of them, and therefore their prisoners were freed.

It could be possible that he was also the highest profile prisoner and would be the biggest splash in terms of shock value to its country. Just a speculation, but remember the other prisoners being in aww of him when he entered their prison room because they all knew him already.

Same here. It seems like they were all released but him.

It also surprises me - ISIS is so brutal, hell, I didn't think they let people go.

The ratio of people to cake is too big.

If I remember correctly, they not only wanted money, but the Guantanamo prisoners to be freed additionally. It was ultimately what he wanted to do... Excellent documentary, but terrible tragedy. In my opinion, the good in him outweighs the negatives.

I'd like to watch this, but I can't see it if it uses any stills or video of his death. Can someone confirm if any of that was used.

It does not show the execution of Jim.
