a subplot on that show involved a yoga cult with a guru that sexually harrasses his students
I wonder if it wasnt inspired by the Buddhafields?

Didn't see that Lucifer ep. so I can only guess that while the Buddafield story could have been the inspiration there have been some other even more noteworthy cases in the news lately too, Bikram, for example http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-bikram-yoga-lawsuit-20160126-story.html- Maybe the Lucifer writers took some ideas from two or more and made an amalgam so they could say 'the story you are about to see is fictional, any resemblance . . is purely coincidental". Yea, right.
