Interesting timing for release just after the mass stabbing attack in MA

May 2016-A mass stabber in Massachusetts killed 2 people in a crowded mall and was stabbing cowering people attempting to kill more when stopped by the first bystander with a gun, all before 1st-responders arrived.

The evening network news who replaced Katie Couric has underlined a favorite NRA talking point.

not sure of your point?.. If he was armed with a gun he'd have killed more ?? surely and probably the man who shot him. You can only stab one person at a time and be physically next too them too do so... and the chances of overpowering a man with a knife is far greater than taking on a guy with a gun. I have been stabbed in an unprovoked attack by 4 men and yes its dangerous and frightening and possibly life threatening ( the blade just missed my lung ) but if that had been in America and they had been armed with guns I highly doubt I'd be here.

You can only stab one person at a time

when I was visiting Australia a woman killed eight with a knife.

and guns are sued to prevent 500,000 to three million crimes per year (way more than violent crime with guns), knives are used to prevent a tiny fraction of that.

By the way the science says less than 4% of people inured by being shot by someone else are killed, while stabbings have a considerably higher fatality rate, so you have that bacwards

When is the "correct" time to talk about gun violence? Ever?

reply

Never, since there is not such thing as "gun violence". Objects do not have the ability to form intent.

reply

Then let me rephrase. When is the best time to talk about the epidemic
of deaths involving the use of guns?

reply

That question has been asked and answered too many times to count. But gun control nuts appear to be determined to continue trying to blame and punish someone other than criminals.

reply

The gun nazis are trying to blame guns (not people) and punish their owners.

The OP points out that knifes can be used in mass killings, but responsible gun owners can stop them.

reply

the fact that you think it is an "epidemic" when US gun murder is PLUNGING on a sustained decline for a generation and is down 65% since the early 1990's points to your (widely shared) cognitive issues and inversion of the central metric.

Moreover every study that looks at this finds between 85% to 93% of murder victims are prior criminals. 97% of murder perps are prior criminals in my home city. In fact the average American, even with the plethora of guns is LESS violent and murderous and at less risk of murder than Canadians or Australians. We don't have a elevated rate of murder whatsoever in the US, by, or of, law abiding people. We have a huge amount of criminal on criminal murder brought about by the criminalization of drugs.

There was a stabbing?Did not heard anything about this, and at a very open place ,why no breaking news .

I was in Australia last year when 8 people were stabbed to death in a single mass stabbing there, just days after the Obama white House said there had been no mass murder in Australia since its gun control (in fact there have been as many after as before.
