Distorting the truth undermines legitimate calls for gun control
The reason why the United States can't get to a sensible policy on gun control is because both sides use under-handed, manipulative, and deceptive tactics to advance their agendas. The primary supporters who have made guns (including highly dangerous assault rifles/semi-automatic weapons)are the NRA, which is primarily supported by small arms dealers (gun shop owners and others with vested financial interests) which has spent tens of millions of dollars in "lobbying" money (bribes) to politicians. They have subverted the political system and are really responsible for the mess that the United States finds itself in, where guns can be easily and readily obtained just about anywhere, and any nut can get their hands on powerful assault weapons.
But its equally bad when documentary film makers distort the truth through contrived editing designed to advance their arguments in a disingenuous manner. Claiming that the 8 second "stumped you" edit was to "provide a pause for the viewer to have a moment to consider this important question before presenting the facts on Americans' opinions on background checks." is laughable, particularly when this was not announced to the viewer of the film in advance.
Clearly, BOTH sides of the argument are foolish enough to believe that "the end justifies the means" and will use any tactics (lies, distortions, bribes, whatever) to achieve their goals. Unfortunately this only leads to a loss of credibility when discovered (both Katie Couric and the NRA are lying sacks of sh*t that can't be trusted or believed). In the meantime, the United States remains a screwed up country where everybody is unsafe and petty disputes that used to be settled with a fistfight now turn into mass shootings.
