So many unanswered questions
Just saw this and posted a review. But it really seems Spike Lee is not as interested as he should be. Because he raises questions in this documentary that he makes no effort in trying to find out. He seems to be a moviemaker who is most comfertable in his chair than anywhere else.
- Who made Michael cry in She´s out of my life? We debate this, but who could possibly help answering. Maybe one of the three movie stars he dated who is still alive? Or his six brothers or two sisters who even lived with him in during these days? Didnt bother asking those.
- What did Michael want to do differently that he could not do in Motown? Okay, write his own music? Since you have Berry Gordy on this film, why not ask him about it? Why not mention the fact that everybody else was leaving Motown?
- Why did Michael want to work for himself as a solo artist? Could it have something to do with the fact that his father physically abused him and bullied him during his entire life? Why leave that out?
- Why not interview Quincy Jones, the producer that made this album happen? Any responsible journalist would atleast provide a reason for this in the film.
- So Off the wall only won one Grammy and sort of upset Michael? Why not dive into that and perhaps ask the people who worked with him on how he changed musically after this letdown? Such as Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton, Bruce Swedien, who all should be featured way more in this film than they are.
- Why instead spend time on Pharell talking about how he imagines unicorns in one of the songs?
- If Michael was really interested in writing his own music, how come he only got three songs on there? Maybe you should dive into his song writing skills at this time? And perhaps be honest about how they were not as great as they later would become.
