"Sacrificed" her high-flying career?

I'm interested to watch the backstory develop, to find out what "sacrificed" means here. What happened in the past that meant she had to choose either her career or her family, and could not have both? And what has changed that allows her to have both a career and family now?

as far as I could tell the kids were at boarding school. She said 'when they're back at the weekend'. The the thing is, why a detective sergeant is construed as a high flyingcareer

Ok I'll change it.

My plot outline was submitted before the first episode was broadcast and like all my plot submissions to IMDb is my reworking/rewording of text from official press releases, TV listings, interviews with the cast etc.

The phrases "high-flying" and "sacrificed" were taken from an article in a TV listings magazine published before the first episode was broadcast and containing extracts from an interview with Anna Friel on the set of "Marcella" during filming months ago.
