The creepy boy is...

...killing this show (for me anyway). I'm trying to hang in with the story, but the little boy is making it difficult.

I guess he's a plot point to bring his mom and dad back together again (for some reason), but the writers could have left the parents together in the first place.

If the boy would have taken the cat out of the bag (instead of the doll with teeth), it would have been over for me.

I have always liked creepy little kids in horror. but you are right it was nice seeing Jack pull that doll out of his bag instead of a dead cat from his Neighbor. that would have been horriblešŸ˜

Rob Zombie is one of the greatest directors today

Well, the teeth were awful enough for me to shiver for a nice long time. How gross-- but how did he even get in there to get them? In that neighborhood, with the lady being as paranoid as she is, she'd surely have an alarm system and keep the doors locked.

Just a pet peeve of mine, but it's that old saying--the devil is in the details. He's a weird kid and I hate the way he acts. He needs to be in a residential school someplace that has room for his psycho parents.

Ummm..... did you not see him crawl in through the cat door?

reply

Ohhhh, no!!! I missed that! I need to go back and see that again-- thanks for telling me that. I wondered so much about it!

He is certainly the main reason I am quitting. His story line just highlights the overall ridiculous writing and characterizations in this show, but the kid -- and his ongoing bloodlust and animal abuse that is treated as a joke (and that would have had his family reported to child protective services long ago) have sealed the deal. I'm out.

My thoughts exactly - Unless someone puts him in a cage...

Really? And who would have reported him? As far as we know, this is the first time Jack's done anything like this. Obviously, they didn't tell the truth to the vet, and they have admitted nothing to the neighbor. So who would call child protective services?

And it's not treated as a joke. It's setting up his psychopathy. Most serial killers and psychopaths have a history of harming animals in their youth. They aren't writing it into the story for humor.

Exactly. Anyone who watches "Criminal Minds" knows the homicidal triad; cruelty to animals, fire-starting and bed-wetting after a certain age. And, additionally, the four factors of behavior; genetics, brain chemistry, psychology and environment.

The looks the family members threw each other certainly indicated that they were treating it as a joke, not the audience members, most of whom are well aware that animal abuse is one of the key signs of future psychotic behaviors. This also would not have been the kid's first foray into such activities, though perhaps teachers or doctors or what have you would not have bothered to honor their "reporting" mandates because they were dealing with the offspring of a high-profile, politically connected family.

As for whatever happened with this as the show progressed, I have no idea, because I stopped watching.

Then you are watching a different show than I am

reply

The boy is the best part of this mediocre show ;))

I don't understand how you can say that he's just a plot point for bringing the parents back together. It's plainly obvious that he is a budding serial killer himself, and that he inherited whatever gene/chromosome/mental malfunction that runs in the family blood. I can understand some people finding him annoying, but you can't look past the fact that his behavior is critical to the story line.

reply

Inherited that gene, yes, or witnessed someone doing something so traumatizing that he now acts out in an awful way!

In my career as a teacher, I've had kids that had the most horrifying behaviors, and when I researched their files I would often find out
they had seen something awful. Maybe this kid Jack has seen his whack-job mother and/or father do something creepy, and it made him freaky now...it's a thought!

I didn't say that he's "just" a plot point for bringing the parents back together. There could be other reasons. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
