If this was real of course he would be taken off the case. It's a conflict of interest. But it's a tv show and makes for good TV so he gets to stay on it.

My sister was r@ped years ago by a police officer, not only did they have a whole other town handle the case but a whole other County because anyone from the cops, to the DA, to the judges that would hear the case could be a conflict of interest.
