Gerald's VA not reprising his role?

I don't get it? The same voice actor, who voiced Gerald from 1996 to 2002 is returning but not reprising his role? What gives? I still think he could pull it off. I can understand Arnold's VA being replaced since he had over 3-4 VAs in the show. But I don't think no one else could do a good voice of Gerald. Glad they got most of the voice actors back! Unlike the PPG reboot that replaced the girls' VAs, while keeping everyone else.
